Amon Düül was a German political art commune formed out of the student movement of the s that became well known for its free-form musical improvisations. This spawned two rock groups, Amon Düül (sometimes referred to as Amon Düül I) and the more famous Amon Düül ostifurtvingfuncnachreyprotadmaconnibb.xyzinfo both groups disbanded in the s, some of the original members reunited in the s under the name Amon.

Having split up in the 's, abortive attempts were made thereafter to reform Amon Duul II. In , the efforts were finally successful, and a reformation did actually take place. "Live in Tokyo" documents that reunion, with many of the former band members returning for the event.
