Background. As the recording of Free-For-All commenced, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist Derek St. Holmes left the band, citing growing personal and creative conflicts with Nugent. Two solid years of living together on the road had taken its toll on the relationship. Additionally, St. Holmes was unhappy with Tom Werman's production, saying that the producer was watering down the band's ostifurtvingfuncnachreyprotadmaconnibb.xyzinfo: Hard rock, heavy metal.

20 Hits. Focusing mostly on Nugent's strongest era, the mid-to-late '70s, Greatest includes nearly all of Nugent's best-known tracks: "Dog Eat Dog," "Free for All," "Cat Scratch Fever," "Just What the Doctor Ordered," and "Motor City Madhouse." Additionally, it includes such often overlooked yet strong album cuts as, "Hey Baby," "Stormtroopin'," and "Hammerdown.".

The title track, the only number sung by Ted, is an alltime classic and ranks right up there with "Stranglehold" and "Cat Scratch Fever" in my opinion of his very best. Many feel that 'Free-for-All' is the ultimate Nugent lp, but I feel his Epic debut is the better record, mostly because of seemingly democractic nature of a full band's effort. St/5().
